From remote Sindh villages to Karachi classrooms, ZIMM Global volunteers describe what it's like to give your time to Pakistan's most impactful community welfare programs.
Hamza Qureshi joined ZIMM Global as a digital literacy volunteer during his third year at university. He expected a box on his CV. What he got was a transformation.
"The first day I walked into that classroom in Surjani Town, 28 girls sat up straight and looked at me like I had all the answers in the world. That kind of responsibility changes how you think about everything."
The Screening and Orientation
Every ZIMM volunteer goes through a structured process: online application, a 20-minute screening call with the volunteer coordinator, and a half-day orientation covering ZIMM values, the code of conduct, and specific program training. It is more rigorous than most internship applications — and that's intentional.
What Volunteers Tell Us
In a survey of 200 ZIMM volunteers, 94% said volunteering with ZIMM had a "significant or transformative" impact on their personal development. 87% said they would recommend it to friends. 72% continued volunteering beyond their initial commitment period.
